Sebastian Bieniek (B1EN1EK), is a German conceptual artist, painter, photographer, performer, author and movie director. According to Global Thought Leader Ranking he was ranked worldwide as the no. 171 of the most influentional "Thought Leaders" in 2018. In 2015 the theculturetrip.com website chose him as one of the "Top 5 Influential Contemporary Berlin-Based Artists"
He was born 1975 in Poland and moved 1989 to Germany. In 1996 he started to study art at the HbK Braunschweig in the class of the performance artist Marina Abramovic and the swiss conceptual artist John M. Armleder. Two years later he moved to Berlin to continue art studying there.
2002 he became a Meisterschüler of the University of Art Berlin in the class of Prof. Katharina Sieverding. 2002-2014 he has also study movie directing in the DFFB (german film and tv school Berlin) .
His best known artworks are radical performances, conceptual paintings which have often a humorous and ambivalent message and so called Bieniek-Face photographs, where he also works with in the field of humor, ambivalence and illusion. In his own words: „When the real looks like fake and the fake looks like real“ is his oeuvre.
Bieniek’s work has recently been exhibited in Dr. Schreyger’s Kunstpalast (titled Bieniek Faces) and in the Kunsthaus Schoeler (titeled „Maske“) in Berlin.
